NWI VITA VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE
What is the VITA Program?
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program provides free tax preparation services from IRS-trained and certified volunteers. Assistance is available for taxpayers whose household income is $67,000 or less.
Our volunteers will prepare and electronically file your federal and state income tax returns at no cost to you.

Documents to Bring
Please bring all applicable documents listed below:
- A valid driverβs license or state ID for each tax filer
- Birth dates for you, your spouse, and any dependents on the tax return
- Social Security Numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) for you, your spouse, and any dependents
- If you have Marketplace Health Insurance, bring Form 1095-A
- A copy of last yearβs federal and state tax returns, if available
- A blank voided check if you would like to set up direct deposit
- If you paid for childcare, bring the total amount paid and the childcare providerβs tax ID number
- If claiming a homebuyer credit, bring a copy of your settlement statement
- If you are a renter, bring a record of your rent payments, your landlordβs name, and your landlordβs address
- Proof of real estate taxes paid during the previous year
- If you are a student eligible for an education tax credit, bring Form 1098-T and your student account statement from your school
Additional Requirements
If married filing jointly, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms to file taxes electronically.
If married filing separately, you must have your spouseβs date of birth and Social Security number.
