At the 2024 Just Economy Conference in Washington, DC, over 1,200 community development leaders, practitioners, policymakers, industry professionals, and NCRC members convened from around the nation on April 3-4. The event fostered new connections and facilitated the exchange of insights on various crucial topics such as banking mergers, community land trusts, and the ethical use of AI in lending. Distinguished figures including Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Rohit Chopra, Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr, Acting Comptroller of the Currency Michael Hsu, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Chairman Martin Gruenberg graced the main stage, addressing pressing issues. Director Chopra emphasized the imperative of robust enforcement of antitrust laws, while Vice Chair Barr and Chairman Gruenberg delineated the opportunities and hurdles associated with new Community Reinvestment Act rules. Acting Comptroller Hsu underscored the necessity for fraud safeguards in AI-driven banking. Additionally, the main stage hosted a compelling dialogue on public-private partnerships, featuring luminaries like Asahi Pompey, Global Head of Corporate Engagement at Goldman Sachs and President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, alongside Aftab Pureval, Mayor of Cincinnati; Tiffany Thomas, Councilmember of Houston; and Nan Whaley, Director of Membership at the US Conference of Mayors.
